Period in Repository names

Really liking GitStack. Thanks a lot.
Does Git in general does not allow periods in repository names or does not web interface does not allow?

It is just a security on the web interface to avoid as much bugs as possible. I am not sure that files on Windows with periods will not lead to potential issues.
